In the County of San Diego, hundreds of thousands of trees, weakened by years of drought, are dead or dying.  These trees present a significant wildfire threat for the County.
Despite the dramatically reduced budget, the County of San Diego succeeded in securing Federal funds to address the problem.  In 2009 the County was awarded two federal grants totaling $11 million.  These grants allow the County to start removing hazardous trees in the high-risk areas, around dwellings and along designated evacuation corridors.
